We are Remco and Gerralda Gilles and we would like to welcome you to stay in one of our holidayhouses in France. In the summer months we live in France and you can enjoy a stay in a typical French Gite on our estate in the Dordogne.

Located in the French countryside in a small hamlet of Vieille Abbaye, near St. Saud Lacoussiere. It dates back to the 10th century when this neighborhood was part of a glorious abbey, hence the name ” Vieille Abbaye ”.

It is located in the Perigord-Limousine Natural Park with an exuberant wildlife and bird population amidst the green rolling hills of the Dordogne. The gites offer you all the comfort and space to enjoy French life in authentic style.

A fresh ”baguette” or croissant every morning, a glass of wine in the evening to enjoy on the terrace in the sun. Experience the richness of French cuisine and culture. In short;  come and enjoy a well-deserved holiday under the French sun.

The gites are located on a spacious natural landscaped site, surrounded by meadows and forests. Roses color and scents along the old walls, there are several fruit trees you can harvest from when the time comes. Delicious outdoor dining on the terrace or lawn, lighting the barbecue or enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine and delicious french cheese. The song of the many birds or, at the evening and night the owls, are your ” background music ”.

A cooling splash in the pool is possible at any time of the day. There are sun beds by the pool to enjoy the sun. Wi-Fi is available.

We also have bicycles available, free to use to explore the surroundings.

Gite La Vigne


Gite La Vigne is built in authentic style, a former farmhouse.

6 people can stay here. On the ground floor is a spacious living room, comfortably furnished. An original fireplace with wood stove. A separate dining room and fully equipped kitchen. (There is a coffee maker, kettle, toaster, hob, oven, dishwasher). On the first floor are three bedrooms, one double bedroom, the other two bedrooms with two single beds each. And the bathroom with bath / shower, toilet and sink.

There is also a private terrace in front of the house as well as at the backside of the house with garden furniture, dining table and chairs and a barbecue. Enjoy the spacious garden, lawns, sunbathing lawns or shady trees and of course the swimming pool. On the site is a large swimming pool for free use, 12×6 mtr, safely fenced.

Gite La Cave


Gite La Cave is built in authentic style, the former wine cellar of the farm.

6 people can stay comfortably here. On the ground floor is the living room, comfortably furnished. A wood stove for possible cool evenings in spring or autumn.

A lower levelled fully equipped kitchen. (There is a coffee maker, kettle, toaster, hob, oven, dishwasher). On the first floor are two bedrooms, one bedroom with a double bed, the other bedroom with two single beds. And then a staircase reaches to the mezzanine bedroom, with two single beds. On the first floor is the bathroom with bath / shower, toilet and sink.

There is also a private terrace in front and at the backside of the house with garden furniture, dining table and chairs and a barbecue. Enjoy the spacious garden, lawns, sunbathing lawns or shady trees and of course the swimming pool. On the site is a large swimming pool for free use, 12×6 mtr, safely fenced.

Gite Merlot


Gite Merlot is built in authentic style, a historic 200 yr old house with original characteristics, renovated into a very comfortable and stylish house.

10 people can stay here. On the ground floor is the living room, comfortably furnished. A wood stove for possible cool evenings in spring and autumn.

A large dining table in the fully equipped kitchen. (There is a coffee maker, kettle, toaster, hob, oven, dishwasher). There is also a separate toilet on the ground floor. Upstairs are four bedrooms, two double bedrooms, the other two bedrooms with two single beds each. And then a staircase reaches to the mezzanine bedroom, with two single beds. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath / shower, toilet and sink, the other with a shower, toilet and sink.

There is also a private terrace in front of and at the backside of the house with garden furniture, dining table and chairs and a barbecue. Enjoy the spacious garden, lawns, sunbathing lawns or shady trees and of course the swimming pool. On the site is a large swimming pool for free use, 12×6 mtr, safely fenced.

Gite Syrah


Gite ” Syrah ” is a small and cozy holiday home. Everything is on one level, there is no upper floor. A comfortable holiday home for up to 4 people.

A large open plan house with fully equipped kitchen, living room with wood stove, two bedrooms downstairs, each en-suite with private bathroom (shower / toilet / sink).

Given the layout and entrance, the Syrah gite is also suitable for disabled people.

(There are even extra handles in the bathroom and a shower chair can be placed if desired)

There is also a private terrace in front and at the backside of the house with garden furniture, dining table and chairs and a barbecue. (The entrance between the gite and the front and rear terraces has been made suitable for wheelchair use) Enjoy the spacious garden, lawns, sunbathing area or the shady trees and of course the swimming pool. On the site is a large swimming pool for free use, 12×6 mtr, safely fenced.

In the low season it is also possible to rent the gite per night on request. Feel free to contact us.

We like simple, clear prices. Included is therefore already the use of gas, water and electricity. Bed linen and towels are also included, as is the final cleaning. Wifi is also provided.

Nature


The Dordogne is characterized by rolling hills, green meadows, beautiful sunflower fields, vineyards and varied extensive forest areas. Various streams and rivers meander through the landscape. An exuberant flora and fauna, wildlife and bird population, unique (predatory) bird species are found here, many colorful wild flowers everywhere, mushrooms and truffles.

Culture


Medieval villages and towns invite you to come and visit. Ancient houses, churches, castles and monumental buildings take you back in time. Brantome, also known as the Venice of the Dordogne, is worth a visit. Or Perigueux, a Gallo-Romanesque city with its cozy narrow streets in the center and historic structures. Sarlat, center of the Perigord, the entire city center is a monument in itself. Bergerac as the center of wine culture.

Discover ancient times and visit one of the many caves with stalactite formations, cave houses, murals etc. For example Grottes de Villars, Grotte de Rouffignac, La Roque St Christophe.

Castles built on rocks, in striking places in the landscape, against a mountain wall or in a cave … discover the life of the former castle lords, ladies and knights

Active


Nature in the Dordogne, Perigord, invites you to go out and explore.

Biking and mountain biking on well-marked routes. We have five bicycles with 21 gears freely available for you. Cycling the velo-rail route, walking through the endless forests. You can rent canoes in many places along the rivers, the large lake St. Estephe and lac St Saud is located near the gites, fun on and in the water.  You can also go karting, quad biking, tennis, golf and horse riding in the immediate vicinity.

Culinary


Around us are many vineyards and wineries where you can taste and buy wine ” a la proprieté ”. Weekly markets, including those of Piegut and Thivier are very famous, only 15 minutes drive.

Antiques markets and flea market. This part of the Dordogne, perigord limousine is known for its limousine beef. Let it be prepared for you in the local restaurants. Foie gras, truffles, chestnuts, Perigord cheese and duck chest … it’s all there to enjoy.  With the wide selection of wine, culinary enjoyment is complete.

By plane

With Easyjet /Ryanair you can fly to Bordeaux / Limoges. With Transavia you can fly certain times of the year to Perigueux and Bergerac. It is then 1 and maximum 2 hours drive from the airports. You can reserve a rental car at any airport.

Otherwise

You can also take the train to France. There are TGV connections north-south.
